Greetings from Madras School of Economics!
With effect from April 1, 2021, Madras School of Economics (MSE) has emerged as an “Institute of Special Importance” as recognized by Government of Tamil Nadu. It is an important milestone and recognition for its Academic Services under the Guidance and Leadership of our Chairman Dr. C. Rangarajan (former Chairman of Economic Advisory Council to Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and former Governor of Reserve Bank of India) and other Board of Governors of MSE. During the last 27 years, with the blessings of our founder Chairman late Dr. Raja J Chelliah and current Chairman Dr. C. Rangarajan, MSE has achieved remarkable progress and has emerged as a leading Centre of Research and Higher Learning in Economics, its allied subjects and Management in the country.
MSE is unique as it is the only institute in the country offering five Post Graduate Degree Programs related to Economics, namely M.A Actuarial Economics, M.A Applied Quantitative Finance, M.A Environmental Economics, M.A Financial Economics and M.A General Economics. It also offers two 2-year Post Graduate Diploma in Management Programs in Finance and Research & Business Analytics (approved by the All India Council for Technical Education). It also offers both full time and part time Ph.D programs in Economics and Management. It plans to offer Under Graduate Program in Economics from the academic year 2022-23.
As MSE adopts quantitative, data driven and analytical approach, these programs attract students from all over India seeking a top class P.G. degree. Students of these programs are well placed every year.
MSE’s priority areas of research are: Public Finance, Macroeconomic modeling, Environment and Trade, Finance, Development Economics, International and Industrial Economics. MSE has been designated as a Centre of Excellence in Environmental Economics by the Ministry of Environment and Forests, GOI. It has established a prestigious Decision Science Lab. It has completed many research projects funded by World Bank, UNDP, SANDEE, British High Commission, RBI, NLC, NTPC, Finance Commission of India, Planning Commission of India, Ministry of Environment and Forests, Tamil Nadu State Planning Commission, Finance Department of GoTN, etc.
