Masters Degree (M.Sc.) in Financial Economics
The post graduate degree in financial economics (M.Sc. Finance) is a two-years intensive course which will provide a comprehensive training required for well qualified graduates in economics or a related discipline to achieve a rigorous introduction to the theory and practice of modern finance as well as obtain employment in the fast growing financial services sector.

This course is an inter-disciplinary course encompassing various subjects including economics, mathematics and statistics and gives an exposure to recent theoretical and empirical advances in the understanding of financial economics, with major breakthroughs in portfolio theory, capital asset pricing under uncertainty, valuation of options, response of security prices to new information, and corporate financial behavior. The core courses of this program involve the elements of these subjects required for the study and practices of modern financial economics. These courses expose the students to the basic economic theories such as micro and macroeconomics, statistics and quantitative techniques, corporate finances and institutional economics.

The third and the fourth semesters provide the opportunity to the students to opt for electives from the number of choices. The electives are designed to provide an in depth understanding of the topic keeping in mind the usage of this knowledge in a real life situation. These electives include a large set of readings from academic journals and hands on sessions on various exercises.

This course provides a valuable opportunity to the students to undertake a dissertation, a successful completion of which would lead to a postgraduate degree in financial economics. The dissertation is designed to encourage active learning in a real life situation, reflecting the basic tenet of this course.
